Move into a gated community or an apartment with a doorman. Or if they come to your door, answer it naked, smoking a cigarette.

College and EX-JW Discontent....Questions and Stats
by teenyuck in*many* ex-jws say that they were robbed of an education due to the wtbts and as a result, they feel that their families and the wt screwed up their life by depriving them of the opportunity to go to college and therefore, earn a high salary at a job they love.
here is a link to the us census which shows that approximately 26% of the us population graduates college.
page 5, towards the bottom, shows the college graduation stats.

1969 "If you are a young person, you also need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Why not? Because all the evidence in fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in a few years. Of the generation that observed the beginning of the 'last days' in 1914, Jesus foretold: 'This generation will by no means pass away until all these things occur.' Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers. If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way towards its finish, if not actually gone! This is why parents who base their lives on God's prophetic Word find it much more practical to direct their young ones into trades that do not require such long periods of additional schooling.. True, those who do not understand where we are in the stream of time from God's viewpoint will call this impractical. But which is really practical: preparing yourself for a position in this world that soon will pass away? or working toward surviving this system's end and enjoying eternal life in God's righteous new order?" {AWAK May 22 1969 15}}
1969 + 6 = 1975 OMG, the mystery is now finished!!!!
Since the society never indicated that the end would come in 1975, one can only assume that some overzealous person from a local congregation snuck into the writing offices and wrote the above. And then it went unnoticed by the editorial staff and was printed in the AWAKE. Yeah, yeah, that's what happened, yeah!
In 1969 I was 19 years old. Today I am 54. In 8 years I will be able to draw my pension and social security. I have one thing to say to the people responsible for the above cited AWAKE article. . . YOU ARE LYING BASTARDS!

How I was raised as a JW versus how I have raised my children. . .
by drahcir yarrum inthe topic of losing our history, because of being raised as jw's got me to thinking about how i've raised my own children.
i have a son 17 years old, a son 15 years old and a daughter 13 years old.
needless to say they have only stepped into a kingdom hall once in their lives to attend my niece's wedding.

I've been reading comments here for a couple of years now and you will find this to be a valuable place for reconciling where you've come from with where you are now. Your son being 10 years old may never have any idea just how fortunate he is that you have escaped the WTBTS. I wish you much happiness in your future.

I started attending Community College at age 27 (the company I worked for agreed to pay one half the tuition and books, took out a student loan for the rest). I finished my undergraduate degree from a 4 year university at age 35 (took a few years off after getting divorce from my JW wife). I completed a graduate degree at age 41. While I can't say any of this was hugely important to my career, it did provide me with a sense of filling in a piece of my life that I thought was robbed from me as a JW.

The topic of losing our history, because of being raised as JW's got me to thinking about how I've raised my own children. I have a son 17 years old, a son 15 years old and a daughter 13 years old. Needless to say they have only stepped into a Kingdom Hall once in their lives to attend my niece's wedding. I'll never forget my son's comment on the way from the hall to the reception (he was probably 8 years old at the time). . . "Who's this Jovagod person they kept talking about?"
My kids have always been allowed and encouraged to participate in all of the in school and after school activities that they desire. I was rarely allowed to do so. My kids have been involved actively in athletics at all stages of their childhoods. My oldest son is going into his senior year of high school as the starting fullback on his football team and he's a good student. My parents didn't allow us to miss any meetings, thus we weren't allowed to play sports or go out with "worldly" friends. While I've never asked him, and wouldn't, I'd be surprised if my oldest son hasn't had some form of sexual activity with his girlfriend. My mothers greatest fear was that I would commit an act of fornication. My kids are all going to attend college, even if it breaks me financially. I was told that it was stupidity to want to attend college in 1968 with the end coming in 1975. I don't view my kids as necessarily any better than anyone else's kids. They do bonehead things just like everyone else. I haven't put any expectations on them to do any more than their best. When you get right down to it, I envy them. My younger son and daughter are also good kids because that's the way my wife and I have raised them. We don't worry that they are going to do anything to "shame" our family. We don't think like that. My mother and to some extent my father were constantly afraid that I was going to do something that would get them viewed as less than ideal JW parents.
All in all, the difference between how I was raised and how my kids are being raised is like the difference between ABNORMAL and NORMAL.

Our Lost Histories
by ashitaka intonight the wife is out, and i had some time to think.. i was watching tv but got bored, because there is a fantastic thunderstorm going on right now.. i turned off everything, and started to think about things, ans why i've had a kind of empty feeling lately, as to my past.
i think about the little things, the history of my life.. somewhere, i lost my life to the jws, that early time that is supposed to be the most important in forming who we become.. i remember being a child, but can't remember when i felt like a child, i just seem to be missing something.
is it the birthdays, holidays, friends i was barred from having?

It's amazing to me, and yet not suprising that so many of us suffered the same loss of identity and childhood due to a screwed up religion. It would be redundant for me to tell my story growing up in the organization so I won't. But the freedom that I've come to enjoy over the last 20 years of NOT being a JW is more emotional and psychological than anything else.

IF I WERE KING. . .
by drahcir yarrum ini don't much care for the thought of going to war.
i know that it is necessary sometimes and this thing with iraq may just be one of those times.
but, it seems to me that a much simpler solution to the terrorist threat problem would be for the united states to issue the following warning to the muslim world.

I didn't say we should initiate a pre-emptive destruction of Mecca and Medina. Did I? What I said is essentially what we've been telling the former Soviet Union, China and North Korea for over 50 years. Attack us and the cost will be too great.
Secondly, millions of Muslim extremist already hate the United States. Simon, where did you get information that it was simply a few thousand extremist Muslims? Most Arab Muslims view us as a nation of infidels. It is irrelevant at any rate because almost all of the Muslim clerics and leaders ARE extremists who want to see the United States destroyed. This is a political-religious group and this is the most dangerous. They know that the attacks of 9-11 seriously damaged our economy and their goal is our economic collapse and therefore our destruction. They don't care if they individually die trying. But to think that their individual actions could result in the destruction of their most holy locations could cause them to take pause.
SixofNine, I can always count on your silly response to any topic.
